QShare file storage and sharing service to be decommissioned Archived No-RSS

  • You are receiving this message because there are members of your department using the QShare application.

IT Services is promoting the use of Office 365 among other alternatives as the university modernizes our document management and distribution services along with extending our collaboration solutions. Modernizing our environment involves the decommissioning of unsupported tools in order to prevent any security or operational risks presented by maintaining an unsupported application. One such unsupported tool is QShare.

What does this mean for me?

Any files currently stored within QShare will need to be migrated to other applications. IT Services offers a number of secure, supported applications that work as alternatives to QShare. To help you identify a supported solution that best fits your needs, IT Services has developed a tool located on our Selecting a QShare Alternative page, found here: https://www.queensu.ca/its/qshare/qshare-decommissioning/selecting-qshare-alternative

By August 31, 2019, at a minimum, you should have an alternative tool selected and any of your processes that previously utilized QShare should be updated to reflect the new tool.

On October 31, 2019, QShare will no longer be accessible. This means that you will not be able to log into the service or retrieve any remaining documents. It is imperative that all relevant content be moved out of the service by this date to avoid data loss.
