Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise | Change to default licensing model Archived
On May 30, 2023, the IT Services' Managed Desktop team will be rolling out changes to the default licensing model for Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise (Office) on all Corporate, managed, Windows devices. As part of this change, we will be switching from the default user-based experience (where Office is activated against their NetID) to device-based licensing which will tie the installation of Office to the device rather than the user. This change does not apply to personally-owned devices, or affect the normal "sign-in to your account" process in any way.

We expect this change to be transparent to users and no action is required on your part. After the change, the device-based licensing will take effect once all the Office apps have been closed and re-opened or when the device restarts, whichever happens first. To determine if the change was successful on your device you can go to File -> Account, in any of the main Office apps, and under the Product Information section, instead of "Subscription Product for <NetID@queensu.ca>", you will see "Subscription Product for This Device".
