ITS Notification: Testing Failures in Mac OS X 10.11 - El Capitan Update Archived
*Update*

Apple has released an update to El Capitan, OSX 10.11.1, which addresses issues with Office 2016. If you have not yet updated to El Capitan, ITS recommends that users continue using 10.10 while El Capitan is more fully tested.

Previous Description (2015-10-07 10:42:01):

With the recent release of the newest version of Mac OS X, IT Services have updated the Supported Software list to include El Capitan at the transitional support level.

Transitional Support: Software that has undergone a major revision by the vendor and requires ITS to test it against our current infrastructure and administrative systems for compatibility before determining final support state. These products will have limited support during this phase.

ITS would like to make users aware that updating any software to a new major release should include the consideration of whether the software and services you use to complete your business activities are supported by the update. If you are unsure, you should wait to perform the update until either the software shows as supported on the ITS Supported Software page (http://www.queensu.ca/its/software), or until you have verified with the vendor that all products that may be affected by the update are supported.

ITS has published a testing page for El Capitan (http://www.queensu.ca/its/software/el-capitan) for review. After early reports of problems, ITS is advising that users wait to install the update to El Capitan. Users are reporting that Office Applications are crashing within El Capitan and there are currently no reported solutions.
