Webmail and Email Changes to Improve SPAM Scanning Archived
In the past few months Queen's email system has been used to launch a number of spam attacks against external mail services such as Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo. This is a result of users giving away their NETID and password in response to fraudulent emails. The outcome of these attacks is that external email services have blocked or greatly reduced the amount the amount of traffic allowed from the @queensu.ca email system.

This has prompted IT Services to make some changes in the handling of email through the @queensu.ca email system. IT Services is now filtering email submitted to mail.queensu.ca on the secure port 465 before it reaches our email servers. We are also applying this filtering to email submitted through webmail.queensu.ca starting this afternoon.

IT Services reminds everyone to never give away your NETID and password.
