ITS have verified that the problem was caused by a Microsoft Office Update. Update KB4011730 was available for installation on March 13, 2018 and if applied, users would experience problems opening Word 2016. If you are experiencing the error when opening Word, please check for Windows Updates and apply them as Microsoft has since released Update KB4018295 to resolve the problem.
