If you are not a Server/Desktop Administrator, this message does not impact you.
The Windows domain controller, winter.ad.queensu.ca with IP address: 130.15.240.57, will be removed from service on Tuesday, March 14 at 6 am. Windows domain controllers manage logon services for systems running Windows that are joined to Active Directory (AD). Your device is joined to AD if you provide a username like "AD\NetID" to log on to your PC. AD can also provide DNS services (website/computer IP address lookups) for these computers.
Active Directory will continue to function via the 5 other Domain Controllers that service campus.
Server and Desktop Administrators should review the DNS settings of windows systems on campus to ensure they are using the Campus DNS IP addresses (130.15.126.54 (knot.queensu.ca) and 130.15.126.52 (braid.queensu.ca)). Systems on wireless or that receive their IP address dynamically through campus DHCP services are not affected by this change. For more information about DNS services on campus please visit https://www.queensu.ca/its/governance-instruments/dns-policy.
