UPDATE: Scheduled Network Maintenance Outage June 12 and 13 from 9 pm to 2 am Update Archived

  • The first change window for the network perimeter upgrade has been completed, and internet service has been restored. The team will continue work during the scheduled second window tonight (9 p.m. June 13 to 2 a.m. June 14) to address outstanding deficiencies.

    This message is a reminder of the planned network maintenance outage on June 12 and 13 from 9 pm until 2 am. Please see the notification below for details.




    Previous Description (June 5, 2026 13:02):


    Please be advised that IT Services will replace the hardware for the campus perimeter network on June 12 and 13. This is part of Queen's Network Modernisation Program to improve speed, capacity, and security.


    Planned outage windows:



    • Friday, June 12, 9 pm – Saturday, June 13, 2026, 2 am, and

    • Saturday, June 13, 9 pm – Sunday, June 14, 2026, 2 am


    Note that the intent is to complete all work overnight on June 12. Should work not be completed on June 12, the second outage window overnight on June 13 will be required.


    All centrally hosted services are affected. Departmentally hosted services and applications may also be affected.


    Generally:



    • Users on campus will be able to access on-campus services from the campus network.

    • Users off-campus will be able to access off-campus (cloud-based) services.

    • Some services will be completely unavailable.


    More detailed information, including affected services, is available on the Next Generation Network SharePoint site.


    Service owners can contact the NGN Transition Team if:



    1. They need assistance to understand the impact of the outage

    2. They would like to be added to a dedicated Perimeter Migration Support Teams Channel for real-time updates

    3. There is a problem with their service after the maintenance window


    Reminder communications will follow closer to the maintenance window.
