Scheduled Network Maintenance Outage August 7 and 8 from 9 pm to 2 am & August 12 from 6 am – 7 am Archived

  • Preparations continue to replace the hardware for the campus perimeter network. This upgrade is part of Queen's Network Modernisation Program to improve network speed, capacity, and security.


    IT Services will be performing final testing and validation before proceeding with replacing the campus perimeter network hardware in August. This will require the following planned network outages:


    · Friday, August 7, 9 pm – Saturday, August 8, 2026, 2 am
    · Saturday, August 8, 9 pm – Sunday, August 9, 2026, 2 am


    Following successful completion of this testing, a further network outage will be required to implement the new campus internet gateway on Wednesday, August 12, 6 - 7 am.


    Note: Following testing on August 7 and 8, the network will be returned to its current configuration. After the testing and validation activities have been successfully completed, the cut-over to the new perimeter will be done on August 12.


    Service Impacts During Maintenance Windows
    During the maintenance windows, services and applications that rely on an internet connection will be affected.
    · Users on campus will be able to access on-campus services from the campus network, including campus emergency phones.
    · Users off-campus will be able to access off-campus (cloud-based) services (e.g. Microsoft 365 services and onQ).
    · Some services will be completely unavailable (e.g. PeopleSoft).

    Service owners can contact the NGN Transition Team if:



    1. they need assistance to understand the impact of the outage,

    2. they would like to be added to a dedicated Perimeter Migration Support Teams Channel for real-time updates, and/or

    3. If there is a problem with their service after the maintenance window(s).


    Reminder communications will follow closer to the maintenance windows.
